FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys agreed Thursday with tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford on an $18 million, three-year contract, affirming his status as the backup to Jake Ferguson.
Spann-Ford was set to make about $1 million before becoming a restricted free agent after the season. Now he and Ferguson are under contract through the 2029 season.
The 26-year-old Spann-Ford slowly ascended from undrafted free agent in 2024 to his current role, pushing past 2023 second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker along the way.
Schoonmaker's future in Dallas was in question coming out of the preseason, but he made the 53-man roster. The former Michigan player is going into the final season of his rookie contract.
Spann-Ford, who played at Minnesota in college, had nine catches in each of his first two seasons and scored a touchdown last season. He has also been a regular on special teams, although those duties are likely to decrease with more of a role on offense.
