HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Landyn Locke threw for 322 yards and four touchdowns as Sam Houston shut out Nicholls 59-0 on Saturday for its first win of the season.

The Bearkats (1-2) posted their highest-scoring game since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision, surpassing their previous mark of 42 against Louisiana Tech on Nov. 11, 2023.

Locke opened the scoring with a 65-yard touchdown pass to Tim Burns Jr. and added scoring passes of 3 yards to Grady O’Neill and 11 yards to Darrick Bledsoe III as Sam Houston built a 31-0 halftime lead.

Locke connected with Kamari Maxwell for a 48-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. Alton McCaskill added a 5-yard touchdown run before backup quarterback Brett Holloway threw a 61-yard scoring pass to Kyan Berry-Johnson to make it 52-0. Holloway capped the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

Sam Houston finished with 619 total yards, including 386 passing, and held Nicholls (2-2) to 163 total yards and 39 passing.

Railyn Adams intercepted a pass for the Bearkats’ first takeaway of the season. His return for a touchdown was nullified by a penalty.
