ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott has tied Tony Romo’s franchise record for touchdown passes with three for the Dallas Cowboys against the Washington Commanders.
Prescott’s 248th career TD toss was a 12-yarder to Jake Ferguson, the second of the day to the tight end. The 33-year-old in his 11th season had earlier touchdown passes of 3 yards to CeeDee Lamb and 10 yards to Ferguson. The scoring connection with Lamb was his 36th, the most of any Prescott target.
Assuming Prescott surpasses Romo, the only major category left for him to take over first place in the history of the storied franchise will be victories.
The 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year entered the Washington game with 83 regular-season wins. Three-time Super Bowl winner Troy Aikman had 94, and two-time champ Roger Staubach had 85. The Cowboys haven’t reached an NFC championship game since winning their fifth Super Bowl title during the 1995 season.
