The Dallas Cowboys have shuffled their roster in anticipation of dealing with multiple injuries in the secondary going into a visit to the Houston Texans
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys shuffled their roster Wednesday in anticipation of dealing with multiple injuries in the secondary going into a visit to the Houston Texans.
The Cowboys put safety Jalen Thompson (hamstring) and defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard (calf) on injured reserve with a designation to return and signed defensive tackle Elijah Garcia to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. Thompson and Bullard have to miss at least four games.
Thompson went down when Dallas was already missing safety P.J. Locke, who has a torn plantar fascia. Both were offseason acquisitions in a retooling of the position. Locke is also on injured reserve.
The Cowboys (1-2) are hoping safety Malik Hooker will return against the Texans (0-3) on Sunday. Hooker has missed two games with a forearm fracture. He was a limited participant in practice Wednesday.
Cornerback Shavon Revel injured a knee in the 34-31 loss to Baltimore in Brazil and was also dealing with an ankle issue. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said he was optimistic Revel could be available against Houston, although the second-year player didn't practice to start the week.
The Cowboys signed three defensive backs to the practice squad. Safety Juanyeh Thomas is back with his former team and probably the most likely to be a game-day elevation against Houston. Dallas also added cornerbacks Alex Austin and Tyrek Funderburk.
Cornerback Cobie Durant, another offseason acquisition, is out with a hamstring strain and unlikely to return against the Texans.
